Sapromyza mallochiana (A lauxaniid fly)

Lauxaniidae: Lauxaniinae

A small fly unmistakeable by its mottled wings held flat and overlapping over the abdomen, and the twin wide, white stripes on the thorax extending over the head.

They may be seen on low grasses and herbs in moist, shady locations, including in Canberra gardens.
