The area associated with this sighting is incongruous with the distribution of X. glauca angustifolia, which occurs much further inland, west over the Dividing Range. This geographic region is however consistent with the almost indistinguishable species, X. australis. The glaucous leaf colour does not correspond with X. media and if this were X. arborea, you would expect to see considerably wider, almost strap-like, leaves than what is seen in this specimen, and this is too far south for this sp.

The taxonomy of P hirsuta is under review. Some recognise the subspecies, some don’t, perhaps because they intergrade a lot. Another unpublished subspecies is said to be made a new species. Nathan Emery is the authority on such things.
