Improvements to Search

Posted by AaronClausen

Hi All,

Today we rolled out a number of improvements to our quick search and taxonomy search tools.

  • Exact match results will now appear at the top of search results. E.g. search for "Emu"
  • Improved handling of special characters in a wide variety of scenarios
E.g. "blue tongue" will now match results containins "blue tongue", "blue-tongue" and "blue something tongue"
  • A bug where some results would appear twice has been resolved
  • The formatting of search results has been widened and improved so you can see more results more clearly before making a selection
  • Number of results has been increased from 10 to 20

We're keen to know how you find it and if you experience any issues with search accuracy following these changes, please let us know.

wow. this is soooo much better. It seemed silly to have to keep remembering where that dash was -- like buff-rumped thornbill or Australian King-Parrot and if you didn't get it right you couldn't find it in search. Yay.

But in insects its still a bit of a shame that when you use the search, ie masked bee - you select the genus or subfamily from the suggestion list it doesn't show all in that genus - it just shows those that could only be ID'd to the genus, so you have to click on each species until you find the one you were looking for.
