User's notes

Having trouble with a suggested ID! Image 1 was taken last when the pair moved into the shrub. Early on, the brightly coloured insect appeared to be chasing the small ones that were frantically flying around the old flower heads. I thought they were two different species. It wasn't until I enlarged the photos that I realised they were mating. I saw at least 3 small ones in flight (nearly continual flight). They were quite small, ~12mm.
