I understand the problem of identification and it is near imposssible without photos of the entire bird. The bill size makes Mellori more likely but I have allowed the initial identification.
Thanks for the update, obviously sad about the outcome but clearly they did all they could and your rescue gave the bird the best opportunity for a recovery. A clear lesson for humanity here on how we can do better.
SAD NEWS in regards to the injured bowerbird. Unfortunately, the vet had to euthanize it as it was not responding to any of the treatments, was having trouble holding its head up, and was not moving. They think the vertebrae in the neck may have been damaged. I feel that this was the kindest thing to do in this situation.
