Frogs

Frogs belong to a group of animals called amphibians. All Australian amphibians are frogs. There are about 4000 frog species worldwide and Australia has 208 frog species; many of these are endemic - that is, they are found nowhere else in the world. Frogs play a key role in many food webs, both as predators and as prey.

I've since heard the call and confirmed it as L. verreauxii. I can see why the FrogID app is all about calls. IDing with photos alone is surprisingly difficult due to the extent of variation within many species.

As you've heard, the yellow colouration is sometimes observed in breeding males of this species, although this specimen lacks most, if not all patterning, which I haven't seen before. Other than that there's nothing that I can see that suggests anything other than L. quiritatus. Since you heard the call and it's so distinctive, I think it's reasonable to at least pencil this in as this species.

Great photos, can really see the detail here. The back almost looks like the skin of an avocado.

This is now known as Litoria quiritata, after a taxonomic review of Litoria dentata group revealed it represented three species. Paper here: https://doi.org/10.11646/zootaxa.5071.1.1

A foam nest like this suggests Striped Marsh Frog (Limnodynastes peronii).
