Bettongia gaimardi, Eastern Bettong (not Southern Bettong) is a macropod (Family Potoroinae) and should be in the 'Kangaroos and wallabies' group not the 'small marsupials' group. Technically it is too heavy to be classified as a 'small mammal'. This species is present in the Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary, in wildlife enclosures at Tidbinbilla and trial releases will be attempted elsewhere, starting with Lower Cotter Catchment.
